옛 기독교 전통을 이어받은 한국 교회는 겉보기엔 보수적인 모습을 아직 그대로 유지하고 있는 듯하다. 그러나 실제로는 정통 신학의 부재, 세속주의, 윤리적 부패 등으로 인해 근본 토대가 흔들리고 있으며, 진보적인 신학 사조가 그 틈을 파고들어 빠르게 퍼져나가고 있다. 그 결과, 교회 안에서 기독교 본연의 절대적 가치는 점점 사라지고, 유동성과 상대성에 기초한 현대적 가치가 계속 세력을 넓히고 있다. 자살을 바라보는 관점도 마찬가지이다. 자살에 대한 전통적인 견해가 여전히 지배적인 듯 보이지만
